Goal Provide services and supports to individuals and families experiencing health and safety needs to assist them in living successfully in the community.

Service Description

Inpatient behavioral health services provide treatment for people 65 years and older in a hospital setting 24 hours a day. Supportive counseling, therapeutic interventions, nursing and medical care are provided under the supervision of a psychiatrist or a physician. This service is designed to provide continuous treatment for Medicaid recipients with acute psychiatric or substance abuse problems. 

 

Inpatient behavioral health services are provided both in private psychiatric hospitals, general hospitals and state operated hospitals.  Inpatient services have to be authorized by a Medicaid contractor.

Inpatient Behavioral Health Services for adults are optional.
