Work First Employment Services is provided to work eligible participants receiving Work First Cash Assistance (WFFA). Countable income is the same as for Work First Family Assistance. WFFA methodology is based on the maximum countable income set by the North Carolina General Assembly.

Short Term Benefits are provided to any family (that currently does not receive a Work First check) with income at or below 200% of poverty, provided there is a child in the household who meets the age, kinship, and citizenship and immigrant rules. The caseworker may accept the family’s statement of the family’s income unless it is questionable.

Whose Income Eligibility
|
Total gross family income must be at or below 200% of federal poverty. All income available to the family is counted in determining their eligibility for Work First Family Assistance, unless otherwise noted. However, income is counted in various ways.
The exception is SSI(disabled participant) income is not counted for Work First Cash Assistance.

1. 27.5 percent of gross income is excluded for Work First Cash Assistance participants.
2. A 100 percent Job Bonus which applies only to new earned income that begins after application for Work First. A Job Bonus is for 3 months and is given once in a 3 year period.
