The NC Rated License Assessment Project helps to define the quality of child care in the state and helps parents recognize and choose child care.
The Division of Child Development awards the NC Star Rated License to child care centers, family child care homes and school-age programs based upon total points earned in two areas: program standards and staff education levels.
The University of North Carolina at Greensboro contracts with the Division to retain well-trained and qualified staff to assess programs statewide. This assessment is the foundation for the NC Rated License and is required to earn a license of four or five stars.
